Annual, biennial, or perennial herbs. Leaves are alternate, often forming a basal rosette, and can be simple or lobed. Flowers are bisexual, arranged in clusters at the stem tips, with four sepals and petals forming a cross shape. Fruits are slender pods called siliques or silicles.
