Solanaceae includes annual or perennial herbs, and sometimes woody vines. The leaves are mostly simple and alternate, with compound leaves occasionally present. Flowers are bisexual, usually found singly or in cymes, mostly growing from leaf axils. The fruit can be a capsule or, more often, a berry that is sometimes enclosed in a swollen calyx.
