Lamiaceae includes annual or perennial herbs, and sometimes deciduous shrubs. They often have square-shaped stems and produce aromatic oils. Leaves are usually opposite and simple. Flowers are bisexual and grow in clusters in the leaf axils, often grouped into spikes or racemes at the ends of branches. They are often two-lipped (bilabiate) and can be symmetrical or slightly irregular. The fruit is made up of four small nutlets.
